Each Google Meet hardware device requires its own Meet hardware software license to operate. This is a separate purchase in the Google Admin console that the organization's admin must acquire and associate with the device for usage in rooms.

As a Google Workspace admin, you can easily purchase and assign a room license in your organization Admin Console to unlock remote device management and device health monitoring. Google Meet hardware licenses are a yearly billing per device.

Google Meet Hardware is a dedicated system for your conference room. It includes a camera, speakers, microphones, a touch controller and a computer that runs your meetings. It stays in the room and is always ready for you to join a meeting with a single tap, no laptop needed.

Can I use my existing TV or monitor?

Yes, any modern display with an HDMI input is compatible. You don't need a special smart board because the Google Meet Hardware provides all the necessary features.

Why should I get hardware instead of using my laptop?

Dedicated hardware save setup time and improve meeting quality. With a laptop, you might need to connect cables and adjust settings, which can take up to ten minutes.

Dedicated hardware lets you book the meeting automatically, start meetings faster, and its cameras and microphones are designed to capture the entire room clearly.

You will also unlock Room specific features.
Use companion mode in a room equipped with Google Meet hardware for a second-screen room experience.

Can I join meetings hosted on Zoom or Microsoft Teams?

Yes. Google Meet hardware features built-in interoperability. If a client or partner sends an invite for Zoom, Webex, or Microsoft Teams, the meeting will appear on your room’s touch controller just like a standard Google Meet call. You can join these external calls with the same one-tap simplicity.

What is "Companion Mode"? How it works with Meet hardware?

Companion Mode is a dedicated "second screen" experience designed to connect your personal device (laptop or mobile) to a meeting already hosted on Google Meet hardware without creating audio feedback loops. It acts as a professional sidekick to the main room display, allowing individual participants to engage in high-value interactions that are difficult or impossible on a shared, stationary room device.

It gives in-room participants a dedicated platform to raise hands, chat, vote in polls, and wirelessly present without disrupting the main display.

One-tap join is a feature that integrates your room directly with Google Calendar. Because the hardware can be associated with its own calendar, and be added to the meeting simply, the meeting is already waiting on the touch screen when you walk into the room. You simply tap the button on the controller to enter the meeting instantly, without needing to type in links or codes.

Do I need a dedicated IT team or expertise for installation?

No. The kits curated for small businesses are designed as "appliances," meaning they are built for easy, self-service setup.

They feature simple instructions, making them easy for anyone comfortable with basic consumer electronics to install.

For the configuration. You will need a Google Workspace Administrator to complete the software setup. This person must:

  • Enroll the device: Log in on the device to connect it to your organization's domain.

  • Assign a calendar: Link a specific room resource (calendar) to the device so meetings appear on the screen.
